The first phase of work that directly involved Geosolving in the pre-factility study for the geothermal activation of two newly built railway tunnels in the cities of Hamburg and Stuttgart, Germany, has just ended.
Geosolving, in collaboration with the Institut für Geotechnik of the Technische Universitat Darmstadt, supported Deutsche Bahn in the choice of the best technology that could be used for the activation of both tunnels, defining the characteristics of the subsoil along the railway section and the geothermal potential that can be extracted from each section.
Thanks to the geothermal activation of these tunnels, it will be possible to satisfy the energy needs of stations and buildings located in their surroundings, using locally available renewable energy and thus contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
